I guess the first thing I should tell you about that has happened since I was away from my blog is that my new precious baby had a picture that went viral.
Hmm, where to start with this little story….
Let’s just go all the way back. I started an Instagram account for my baby when he was a couple months old to post his pictures. It was a place I could overshare and not annoy my Facebook friends. I could also practice my photography skills. I followed other trendy kiddie accounts and some amazing small shops that sold handmade clothing. Nothing big. We posted daily pictures for a couple weeks. Then took a break.
After moving to Illinois, I decided to start posting to his account again. This was in February. One of the first pictures I posted was a failed attempt t a Valentines day picture. You know the picture you find on Pinterest with the baby that has kissy lips all over him. I tried that and it totally didn’t work.
So I had my cutie Landon Lee with no shirt on. Windows open to shine tons of beautiful light on him. It was just right. His highlights in his hair glistened and his eyes were like crystals. He looked right into the camera and I took a beautiful shot. My mom told me not to post it because when he got older he would hate me for it. But it was just too darn cute not to post.
A few days later, I found that Fifty Shades of Black had posted Landon’s picture on their Instagram and Facebook page accounts and it had earned hundreds of positive comments, likes, and shares. I felt a bit of pride for creating such an adorable baby. A few family members and friends contacted me to make sure I knew his picture was floating around the internet. I let them know everything was OK. Then the worst possible scenario happened.
A few days later I started getting a ton of notifications about Landon’s picture being on Facebook and Twitter again. I tried to ignore it, but then decided to check out what they were talking about. I found a popular college football player had shared a different picture of my beautiful bundle of joy in a negative way. They were fat shaming my baby! I couldn’t stand to read the comments and there was no way I could go to war with all these people. They were giving him nicknames based on his weight and each one seemed to be trying to outdo and make a more rude comment than the one before. I wanted to cry. I will not retype any of the horrific names I saw for my baby except one. One nickname kinda stuck. Stuff Curry.
I had no clue what was meant by Stuff Curry so I Googled it and found Steph Curry from the Golden State Warriors NBA team. Ok, this guy was not half bad. I really wasn’t offended. If a Cabbage Patch Doll were to be made to look like Steph Curry it would be my baby. I thought this nightmare would all go away, but a few days later it was all still being shared on celebrity and other very popular accounts. They even had his picture on the NBA Meme Team Top 5 that aired on ESPN. I knew I couldn’t hide from it. So instead of letting all the negative people and comments control me, I decided to take control of the new nickname given to my nugget. He is now Landon (Stuff Curry) Lee. And because I knew in the beginning to watermark my images, people were able to find his Instagram account. He now has thousands of very loyal fans on Instagram that actually fell in love with that pic that others tried to fat shame my baby with. We now only focus on those fans and ignore those who attacked my innocent baby.
If you would like to follow Landon (Stuff Curry) Lee on Instagram. @BabyLandonLee You will be pleasantly pleased with my oversharing of adorable baby pictures.
