Did you know that AT&T has a new service called ShopAlerts? Shop Alerts sends coupon codes and sale alerts automatically via text messages to customers who are signed up. Currently the service is available in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco only.
The alerts are sent based where you are. Yes, AT&T will (actually already does) know where you are. If you are signed up, you will receive a text alert when you are within a mile or so of a targeted location.
The new ShopAlerts service will locate subscribers based on cell towers that their phones are communicating with. The service does not use Global Positioning System that would be more accurate. This also means the new ShopAlerts service will work on any phone, not just smartphones. So all customers can sign up.
There is a long list of companies that are already on board and participating. JetBlue, Sports Authority, Kohls, Kmart, and HP are just to name a few.
If you have not signed up and want to, just visit AT&T to sign up. You just need to be over 18, able to receive text messages, and live in one of the participating cities.
