I bought a Nutri Bullet (affiliate link) right after Christmas. With one of my new life changes of eating healthier, I wanted to get into the green and healthy smoothie fad. As soon as I got my new kitchen gadget home I pulled it out to play with it, but the recipe book was full of ingredients that I did not have in the fridge. Some ingredients I had never even heard of. So I followed the pick this or that chart that came with the Nutri Bullet and almost lost my breakfast. I made the most absolute gross smoothie.
At that point I made a mental note not to create my own green smoothies. I asked on Facebook what everyone’s favorite smoothies were. Most of the recipes offered were not healthy at all, and none were really green smoothies. The only suggestion was to add spinach to any smoothie. I had already figured out that spinach had such a mild taste that I could add it to any smoothie. I was a bit bummed at the lack of healthy responses.
Since I was hungry for a snack I decided to create my own healthy non green smoothie. I didn’t add spinach only because I ran out. I guess this must already be out there somewhere, but if not, I have finally created a smoothie that I actually drank instead of pouring down the sink.
I have to admit that I did not measure anything so everything is just approximate. First, I used Horizons Organic Yogurt. I love this yogurt but next time will use Greek Yogurt. Then I threw in about 2 handfuls of strawberries, 1 handful of blueberries, and a small handful of blackberries. Then mix and….
then sit back and sip. I was satisfied and did not even want a snack after this. Oh and let me tell you how good this is for you. Blueberries are antioxidants and anti inflammatories. Strawberries contains anthocyanins, which stimulate the burning of stored fat and increase memory. Blackberries help improve oral health and has a positive impact on motor and cognitive skills, which often decline with age. Not to mention that the strawberries and blueberries are high in vitamin c which helps your immune system.
- 1 cup strawberries (fresh)
- ½ cup blueberries (fresh)
- ½ cup blackberries (fresh)
- 1 cup Greek Yogurt
- Add all ingredients into blender and blend until smooth.
So, like I said before, go ahead and drink up.
