I was invited to take the new 2015 Honda Fit for a test drive in San Diego California late last month. Honda sent me and a few other bloggers to the beautiful coastal city of San Diego and showed us the technology and many features to allow us create our own opinion of the subcompact hatchback car.
At first glance the small car appeared to be your average subcompact car. I am not going to tell you the typical things you I would read on the car focused websites. I am going to rate this car in terms of appearance, technology, and features. All opinions are my own. Ok, well, not just mine but my 17 yr old daughters too. I called her on Facetime as soon as I saw the 2015 Honda Fit and showed it to her because the first thing that came to mind was a first time car buyer. So I had to give the car a big bear hug for her.
Appearance (I’m also going to call this the cuteness factor)
Don’t get me wrong, the 2015 Honda Fit is a subcompact car, not the smallest car you can get, but it is a small car. The front of the car reminded me of the hybrid Pryis car. Very short and stumpy. Although I did not notice the stumpy front of the car until I actually walked in front of it. Other than the stumpy front, the Honda Fit seems to be the average hatchback car. My daughter said “This car FITS her” in terms of size and cuteness.
As I sat in the driver seat of the car I felt very comfortable with all features at my fingertips or within reach and bright blue lights lighting up the digital dashboard meters. Although I could not for the life of me figure out where the gas tank release lever was. I only noticed that the width was a bit more narrow than my own Honda Accord because the glove box between the two front seats was a bit narrow.
I was surprised at how many cup holders were available. My daughter pointed out that she did not like the cup holders in front of the gear shiftier, but I quickly noticed another cup holder conveniently placed to the left of the steering wheel.
The 2015 Honda Fit comes in 8 cool colors. New colors for this years model are White Orchid Pearl, Aegean Blue Metallic, Passion Berry Pearl and Mystic Yellow Pearl.
When you think of Infotainment, the first car company that comes to mind is not Honda. But they have been able to place acceptable infotainment in the 2015 Honda Fit. The car is not going to preform a gymnastics routine for you, but it will read texts, connect you a GPS app on your phone and
The Infotainment in this car is sufficient for the average car and technology user. Not too much, but just enough.
The LX model is equipt with an averge 5 inch monitor audio system. The EX and EXL models have the 7 inch display audio and there is also an option for the EXL to include NAVI (Honda’s navigation).
You will also find driver assistive technologies in the 2015 Honda Fit like LaneWatch, Review Camera, and Hill Start Assist.
As I sat in the back seat I was surprised at how much room there was. I did not feel like I was sitting on the floor as you do with many small and even mid-sized cars. I also walked around to the back of the Honda Fit and opened the hatch back. I was pleasantly surprised at how much room was in the back of this small car. I could see myself being able to make runs to the local home improvement store and not worrying where to stuff my purchases in the car. Then I was showed how the back seats conveniently fold in several accommodating positions to store tall, long, or big items. The front seats also lay down flat for Refresh Mode just in-case you need to stop and take a nap on a long road trip. The other modes were Utility Mode (seats laying flat) Long Mode (seats laying flat including front passenger seat) and Tall Mode (seat flipped up- pictured below).
The 2015 Honda Fit will be available for sale on 4/15/14. As for my teenage daughter, she has already claimed a car and named it.
